We are excited to announce that we will be open during the winter this year!! We will be open from 10 AM – 2 PM on Tuesdays and Fridays at the 1306 Beyer Location!!! This is a first for us, and we are excited to continue to help serve you!!
Hello everyone, happy Prep Week! Mark your calendars for this Friday (11/20)! We are hosting a fundraiser at Panda Express to raise funds and ensure we can keep SHOP running. Due to COVID, it is virtual, meaning it is for online orders only using the code 901554. Below is the flyer and instructions on how to contribute if you would like. Feel free to pass along the flyer and invite your friends for a nice treat to end Prep Week! Have a great last 2 weeks and good luck on finals! https://community.pandaexpress.com/…/660cdfd…/en/landing
As this semester at Iowa State is about to start, we want to share that SHOP has been moved to 1306 Beyer Hall!! The location is now easier to find and right next to the Beyer Hall Cyride Stop. More information about open hours and activities will be coming soon! Stay safe everyone and see you soon! 🙂
As further information is given to us, we, unfortunately, have to stop stocking our food pantries in Freddy, SUV, and the Food Science Locations. As we are a student organization, we have to stop our activities by request of the university. However, if you need food please reach out to us, and we can get you in contact with people who can get you some!!! Stay safe and take care everyone!!
We hope everybody is staying healthy and trying to make the best of this current situation. Since ISU has gone to online instruction, limiting peer interaction, and encouraging people to stay home, we have to close our Food Science location because we no longer have volunteers to help out. Don’t worry though, our Freddy and SUV locations will remain open, and we will do our best to try to keep them stocked, during this time! The Freddy location is open from 8 AM – 6 PM Monday – Friday, and 1 PM – 5 PM on the weekends. The SUV location is open from 8 AM – 5 PM Monday – Friday. We look forward to seeing everyone as soon as we can!
With an increase in the number of visitors and volunteers, The SHOP Food Pantry has extended open hours to better accommodate our growing community! This will provide more feasible options for students, faculty, and staff to visit the food pantry during the week. Our volunteers will also have more opportunities to serve their community with the increase in volunteer shifts available to them. Our mission at The SHOP Food Pantry is to engage with anti-hunger advocates and serve the student population by increasing hunger awareness and food security. We look forward to continue serving our community and peers this semester!

As students return to school for the 2019 spring semester, it is important to continue to bring awareness to the growing impacts of food insecurity on college campuses. With awareness comes power because it means that colleges and universities can begin to address the issues of food insecurity among students and find solutions. The United States Accountability Office released a report on Wednesday, January 9th called “Food Insecurity: Better Information Could Help Eligible College Students Access Federal Food Assistance Benefits” that sheds some light on the demographics of students struggling with hunger in college and the effects of food insecurity on those students. This comprehensive report is a must read for individuals in a position within universities to create positive change and provide more assistance and resources for students in need. An article featured on insidehighered.com called “Federal Report Agrees Some Low-Income College Students Are Going Hungry” is also a great source for those wanting to learn more about the data behind college students and food insecurity, and the article does a good job of summarizing the United States Accountability Office’s report. Throughout the 2019 spring semester, the SHOP Food Pantry looks forward to the strides we will make both as an organization and in partnership with the Iowa State University community towards combating food insecurity!

Students can donate to The SHOP Food Pantry!
Utilize your extra dining dollars at the end of the semester to ensure none go to waste! The SHOP Food Pantry cannot except dining dollars directly, but students can use their dining dollars to purchase non-perishable food and toiletries to then donate to The SHOP. Some great places to shop with your dining dollars include the MU Market & Cafe, the East Side Market, the West Side Market, and the South Side Market.
Donations can be dropped off in the main office of the Food Sciences Building room 2312 or in The SHOP Food Pantry, also located in the Food Sciences Building room 2616. The main office of the Food Sciences Building is open Monday-Friday 8 am – 5 pm. The SHOP Food Pantry is open Tuesday and Thursday 3 pm – 6 pm and Wednesday 11 am – 6 pm.
The S.H.O.P. Food Pantry is OPEN for the spring 2017 semester!!!
All students and staff are welcome to stop by and pick-up free food. Our volunteers do not ask for any identification when you come in, and we provide bags to carry your food home.
